Stroud community benefits from Duralie Coal Mine GrantsLast modified: November 4, 2009 - 10:30 AM
Sixteen community groups including schools, sporting associations, church groups, an aged care facility and service organisations have received grants for specific projects, directly benefiting residents of the Stroud area. A condition of the development consent for the Duralie Coal Mine required the payment to Council of monies for the development of 'community infrastructure' projects within the Stroud, Stroud Road and Wards River area. The sixteen successful applicants for the Duralie Coal Mine Community Enhancement Project funding for 2009 shared an amount of approximately $92,000, which has been` allocated to a variety of projects including repairs or upgrades to community buildings, purchases of technical equipment and whitegoods, and educational aides" said Mr Glenn Handford, Director of Planning and Environmental Services for Great Lakes Council. Both the Stroud Community Lodge Inc. and the Stroud area HACC Program received funding to directly support the elderly, frail and disabled among the community. The Stroud Public School, the Stroud Preschool and the Stroud Road P & C Association all received funding for various projects. The Wards River & District Progress Association and the Stroud Road Community Hall and Progress Association each received funding to upgrade and make repairs to their community halls. The Friends of St John's Stroud and the Stroud Catholic Church received funding also, along with the Wards River Rural Fire Brigade and the Stroud Lions Club. The Stroud and District Tennis Club, the Stroud Writers Group and the Stroud Seals Swim Club also all received funding. The next round of Duralie grants will be offered for application around March 2010. Contact details |
